Til Death We Still Cannot Part

The air conditioner in my beloved Yukon has expired. Completely. As in barely blowing hot air.

DH, the eternal optimist, said, "Well good thing it is the end of summer." I am not certain what the temperature is where he is standing, but I'm right next to him and today will be a high well into the nineties. In a black leather-seated Yukon that equals sticky, sweaty and gross.

The funeral for my beloved coolant system will be, well, I'm not sure. While I recognize the importance of laying to rest the deceased in a timely manner, there has been a complication.

Namely, a $1900 repair bill.

Yes, to properly replace my broken compressor, condenser, and other parts I do not recall the names for at this time, in addition to flushing the lines, which I assume is akin to the embalming process for mortals, it'll cost me nineteen Benjamins.

Since my checking account is about 18 and half Benjamins short, it'll have to wait.

I will continue to drive the Yukon with the deceased cooler under the hood. While the prolonged burial may cause friction in my marriage, let's hope the rotting parts in my car do not cause too much friction with local authorities.

I plan to send a death notice to the paper and when the memorial service is finally planned, you will all be invited. In lieu of flowers, please send condolences in the form of Benjamins.

  1. Alas, I am sure that your dearly departed will be sorely missed. They say that a death in the family can be a major stressor in a marriage--you are a good woman to stick to DH through this troubled time!
May there be 19 available Benjamins in your very near future.

  3. Debbie. I know, and understand exactly how you feel. Not only have I wanted a new kitchen for the past 10 years, I have also longed for a portable, window air conditioner that is probably under $300.00 at wally world. With the humidity here in NE at times it is unbearable. I want you to know that I have now set up a fund raiser at our local "Mr. Mikes" for your Yukon Air Conditioner Fund. With the population here in Hubbardston, and most residence are chicken farmers, you can expect your big cash flow in about 25 years. But it is the thought that counts, don't you agree.

Oh!! Just wanted you to know that the Barn, with all of our horses is air conditioned. Go figure.

  4. Joanne,

The barn is air conditioned!? I'd be sleeping out with the horses! I appreciate the fund raising efforts too.

  5. I HATE hot weather. Even warm weather. I mean I don't mind getting rays on a sunny day, but give me cold and windy please.

  6. My heart goes out to you, my friends old car had the unfortunate condition of only being able to operate the engine or the air con, at one time. Its quite ironic though isnt it, a car called a yukon hot as buggery...

(the yukon is cold isnt it)

  7. ugh!
I heard that if you put ice cubes on cookie sheets and hold them up to the car windows and let the wind blow across them, it's like an air conditioner. Yeah, my gram told me that's what they did when they drove back and forth to California back in the 40's. Just thought I'd pass that little tip along.
    No, really.....I'm so sorry =(
Take it to Sav-Mor and talk to Glen

  9. Pope Terry,

Now if my A/C would work when the car was off... I could chill it down to about 45 degrees before each trip. Wouldn't be so bad.

  10. b.,

I bet holding those cookie sheets would make your hands a bit cold. Could you see my kids doing that on the way to school? Oh, they'd be mortified!

  11. Yeah, mine wouldn't do it either.

  12. Oh, I feel your pain. My home AC went out two weeks ago... and now that it's replaced, I've been keeping it low, low, low!

  13. That would truly put me over the edge.

I once spent a day in Phoenix without AC. Fortunately it was in February and it was only 88.

    Best wishes!

  14. b.,

I was seriously considering the ice cube deal yesterday while driving. Wondering if it might work. I'm getting desparate I know. Please pray for autumn to come.
